History of Agricultural Technology

Field of agricultural technology is a hybrid of scientific and engineering sciences agricultural sciences. The history of the birth of the sciences within the scope of agricultural technology triggered by the need for compliance with agricultural land clearing and construction extensively in the United States and Europe in the mid-18th century.

In agricultural country (Indonesia), agricultural technology development of higher education in Indonesia since the early 1960s can not be separated from the development of higher education and agricultural techniques and since the time of Dutch occupation that historically are basically putting in Indonesia.


World War I, which occurred in Europe has been causing a disturbance of international relations, among others, the fleet is difficult to get into the Indian Ocean so that the experts that were previously imported from Europe experienced many difficulties.

Technical experts printing medium and high (for both engineering and agriculture) to be requirement by the Dutch in Indonesia during the occupation. To meet the needs of skilled workers in agriculture, livestock and plantations which are intensively carried out by the Government of the Netherlands East Indies in Java and Sumatra in Cultur stelseels program at the beginning of the 19th century.

To meet this need, then at Bogor (Buitenzorg) was established several institutions of secondary education for agriculture and veterinary medicine, namely Middlebare Schooll Landbouw, Middlebare Bosbouw Schooll and Nederlandssch Indische Veerleeen Schooll.
